Food Festival Cake Competition

Faversham Food Festival Cake Competition

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a Mary Berry? Then dig out your cake tins and get baking.  We are looking for you to put your best spatula forward and come up with a Sunday Showstopper.  We don’t mind what flavour or what size we just want something that, most importantly, is delicious and looks fabulous.  Marks will be given for flavour, texture, effort and creativity.  Your entry could be a three- tier masterpiece or 6 beautiful cupcakes, if brownies are your thing then a tray of those would be wonderful, it’s up to you and your imagination, all we ask is that your bake is sweet and not savoury and includes some fruit or vegetables, we do live in the garden of England after all!  So get planning and bring us your brilliant bake on Sunday 15th September.

How it works

Please deposit your cake at the Alexander Centre between 12:30 and 14:30

The winners will be announced at 16:00 at the Alexander Centre – all welcome. Proceeds of the cake auction to the Abbey Physic Community Garden

50% of the score is obtained from our judging panel who will rate the entries on their presentation and taste. The other 50% of the votes will be scored by the general public. We will pick members of the crowd (that haven’t submitted entries) to come and sample what is on offer, then they will hand in their scores. Once all scores have been tallied, our independent adjudicator will announce the winner.

The Judging Panel will be Chaired by Jane Beedle

Jane Beedle moved to Faversham in June 2018 and has thrown herself into Faversham life.  She was a finalist in the Great British Bake Off in 2016 and went one better in the Bake Off Christmas Special 2018 when she carried off the coveted winners’ trophy.  She is currently planning to open a local cookery school and has been working with Katy Cox of Mighty Fine Things and Wasted Kitchen to host a number of fun foodie events.

And the best is yet to come! Once the judging is over all cake entries will be for sale, with proceeds going to the Abbey Physic Community Garden. So make sure you are down at the Alexander Centre on Sunday 15th September and grab a seat to taste test some of our fantastic cakes!

Cakes need to be delivered to the Cake Competition Stall between 12:30 and 14:30 judging from 15:00
